MUZAFFARABAD – Member of the Legislative Assembly Syed Bazal Ali Naqvi stood against the constitutional amendment to postpone the local body elections, the massacre of the hopes of political workers is intolerable, and he cannot be a part of any such movement in the assembly, the central leader of Pakistan People’s Party Azad Kashmir, Former Minister of Information and Agriculture, Member of the Legislative Assembly Syed Bazal Ali Naqvi has said that elections are indispensable to transfer power to the lower level and activate local bodies.
Local government elections bring forth young leadership and these young people go to the Houses of Assembly tomorrow. Political parties should have sat with the Election Commission and sorted out the issues of electoral lists and constituencies and released the schedule.
In any case, they do not want to distribute the powers and funds through the local body representatives and this is the reason that today they have presented an amendment bill in the assembly along with other political parties. Such action will undermine public trust in politicians.
He said that I cannot be a part of any process which harms the public interest. It was clear from the behavior of the government in the assembly yesterday that it wants to postpone the local body election at any cost, that’s why I did not participate in the assembly meeting today.
He further said that local government elections bring out the leadership at the grass root level which is very necessary for immediate solution of public problems. In Azad Kashmir, the ban on students’ unions for a long time and the non-organization of local body elections have destroyed the chances of youth coming forward. The political leadership should realize this.
