Chikar: Groom arrested for firing during wedding ceremony, toddler killed

Chikar, Azad Kashmir: (Azadi Times) In a tragic incident, a groom, Ikram son of Qamar-ud-din, was arrested by the police during his wedding ceremony after a firing incident resulted in the tragic death of an innocent child.

The incident took place in the Panu Pind area of Chakwal, following the firing by Ikram and his companion, Hamza son of Ashraf, during the wedding celebration.

The child, identified as Sameeb son of Ahmed, resident of Katai, was playing in the vicinity when he was struck by a stray bullet, resulting in his untimely demise.

Upon swift action by the police, Ikram and Hamza were immediately apprehended and brought into custody. Additionally, a cache of unlicensed firearms was confiscated during the operation.

The operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of AJK Police (DSP) Muhammad Parvez, was conducted under the direct orders of High Superintendent of Police (HSO) Abdul Khaliq.

The police have initiated further search operations to apprehend the remaining five culprits who fled the scene in fear of arrest.

Speaking to the media, Simaab Ahmed, the father of the deceased child, urged for swift justice, emphasizing the need for the immediate arrest of the remaining suspects.

He expressed his gratitude to the police for their cooperation in the case thus far, while emphasizing the need for stringent measures to ensure the safety and security of the local community.

It is worth noting that incidents of this nature have raised concerns in the jurisdiction of Jhelum district.

While the local administration and police authorities have pledged to take strict action against such individuals, ensuring the prevention of such tragic events remains a priority for the authorities. The loss of precious lives in such incidents continues to be a matter of grave concern.”
