Polio has been confirmed in a 3-month-old baby in North Waziristan, after which the number of polio cases in the country has increased to 18 this year.
According to Pakistan Polio Programme, 16 cases of polio have been reported from North Waziristan while 2 cases of polio have been reported from Lakki Marwat, thus all the cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Polio virus has also been confirmed in environmental samples from Bannu, Peshawar, Swat and Lahore.
Pakistan Polio Program says that the flood victims are facing challenges due to displacement.
Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel says that preparations are being made for a possible polio campaign in the flood-affected areas.
