Jammu:- Principal Secretary Skill Development Department (SDD) Dr. Asghar Hassan Samoon has called for inclusion of new faces in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs):
Dr. Samoon was addressing a meeting held in Jammu Division to review the work and performance of ITI IMC. The meeting was attended by Secretary Skill Development Department Nazim Zia Khan and other officers of the department. The Director SDD in Jammu Division, Chairperson of IMC and Superintendent of ITI participated through video conferencing. The Principal Secretary asked the officers to seek reorganization of these IMCs to breathe new life into their work. He called for the inclusion of members from different industrial backgrounds to diversify the work of these skill providers.
Dr. Samoon said that for the first time when the industrial policy of Jammu and Kashmir promises huge industrial development, the production of relevant manpower to meet their needs should also be our priority. He said that the recently announced large industrial package would also help in setting up new industrial units here. Dr. Samoon said that IMC was formed in 2014 to involve industrialists in the management of our ITIs. He revealed that the chairperson of IMC is an industrialist who has the power to revise the curriculum and introduce new courses.
The Principal Secretary asked the officers to provide a list of local industrialists and industries so that new committees could be formed with them as members. Dr. Samoon also reviewed the work of the current IMC. He asked about the meetings he was holding. He further reviewed the action taken on various decisions taken in such meetings. The Principal Secretary was informed that 48 out of 52 ITIs are IMCs.
He was also informed that the formation of new IMCs for Model ITIs of Jammu and Srinagar was in the final stage and all other ITIs would soon be provided IMCs with the expertise of these institutions. Will further strengthen the work.
