New Delhi, September 28 (KMS) The Indian government has issued an advisory to its citizens to take necessary precautions and be alert during the sudden boom in the “Go back to India” campaign around the world, especially in the West.
A statement issued by the Indian government urged Indians studying and working abroad to take appropriate measures in view of the sharp rise in incidents of hate crimes, communal violence and anti-Indian activities in Canada. Be careful and be alert. The Government of India has also advised Indian citizens to register themselves with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulate General of India in Toronto and Vancouver so that agencies can better communicate with Indian citizens in case of any need or emergency. The main motivation of the advisory was the Canadian government’s defense of the recently held “Khalistan Referendum” aimed at turning Indian Punjab into an independent state for the Sikhs. India’s Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arndam Bagchi called the Khalistan referendum a political campaign and objectionable.
