All Party Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir Branch Convenor Mehmood Ahmed Sagar has expressed serious concern over the declining health of All Party Hurriyat Conference leader Altaf Ahmad Shah, who has been illegally detained in the notorious Tihar Jail in New Delhi for the past several years. Mehmood Ahmad Sagar said in a statement released in Islamabad that Altaf Ahmad Shah was arrested five years ago by the Indian investigative agency NIA in a false case and he was subjected to the worst political revenge in jail due to which his health deteriorated. She said that the inhuman behavior of the occupying administration towards Altaf Shah was a toy with his life and said that Hurriyat leaders are being targeted for revenge because of their political views. He expressed regret that the prison authorities failed to provide timely treatment to Altaf Ahmad Shah despite his serious illness. He said that Altaf Shah was diagnosed with kidney cancer and the Indian authorities were deliberately playing with his life. Mehmood Ahmed Sagar said that despite repeated requests from Altaf Shah’s family, the occupying authorities did not take any action to provide medical aid to Altaf Shah. He said that it is very sad that the Indian authorities are depriving the Kashmiri detainees of all basic facilities including medical treatment and proper food. He appealed to the international human rights organizations to play their role for the early release of Altaf Shah. Mehmood Sagar said that the Indian government should immediately release the illegally detained Hurriyat leader on humanitarian grounds so that his family can take proper care of him.
