Mahatma Gandhi, a name that not only contributed to India’s independence but also introduced the world to weapons like non-violence and truth. Gandhiji’s name is written in golden letters in the history of India. But whenever Gandhi ji is remembered, then only such a name is remembered who shot him three times and killed him. This name was of Nathuram Godse.
Nathuram Godse was taken into custody after Gandhi’s assassination and later sentenced to death. But after the assassination of Gandhiji and till the hanging of Nathuram, only one question kept troubling the people. That was why Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji. Even today this question becomes the subject of discussion many times. The person whose first inspiration is Mahatma Gandhi, why would he kill him. Some people believe Gandhiji to be right on this subject and some to Nathuram Godse.
Born on 19 May 1910 in Baramati, Maharashtra, Nathuram was part of a Brahmin family. Gradually such a light of patriotism awakened in his mind that he joined those who believed in Gandhiji. For the first time he went to jail because of Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement. But gradually hatred towards Gandhiji started increasing in his mind. We will try to know further what were the reasons for this. In the year 1937, Godse accepted Veer Savarkar as his guru. Godse was completely shaken by the partition of the country in 1947. Perhaps he could not tolerate the partition of India.
When Gandhiji’s son Devdas Gandhi came to meet Godse in jail, Godse told him that today you and your family have suffered a lot because of me. I am very sorry for this. But I had no personal enmity with Gandhiji. I killed him only for political reasons.
Nathuram Godse used to consider his first responsibility for Hindutva and Hindus. He believed that Gandhiji had made an important contribution in making the piece of India Pakistan. He felt that all the policies of Gandhiji and his government at that time were only and only in favor of Muslims. Which was run by Gandhiji himself. Due to which Pakistan was created.
Let us tell you that Nathuram Godse had raised many questions on the last hunger strike of Mahatma Gandhi, which he kept for releasing funds to Pakistan at a time when India was retreating. Godse believed that if this strike had been done at the time of formation of Pakistan, the Indus river would never have been separated from India. Getting entangled in these questions, he planned to kill Gandhi and then while coming out of Delhi’s Birla Bhawan, touching Gandhiji’s feet, he shot three bullets with a Beretta pistol and killed him. After which he was taken into custody and after trial, was sentenced to death in Ambala Jail on November 15, 1949. Today, even after so many years, this question is still there in the minds of the people. Some consider Gandhiji right and some Godse. You can also share your views on this topic with us.
