For your information let us share that after 75 years of independence the residents of Sadal village of Udhampur have been able to get rid of darkness from their lives with the electrification of their area under the prestigious ‘Untied Grants Scheme’ of the Central Government. According to the information, the light of the bulb was seen for the first time in Ganauri-Tanta village of Doda district. On the instructions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the administration started the work of electrification in the village, a demand put forward by a group of local people during the LG meeting.
It is being told that the J&K administration has set its target to harness the hydropower potential of the region in the next five years to make J&K power surplus. According to the information, to achieve this target, the administration has taken several important reforms in the power sector, which will change the dynamics of the power sector here. After 75 years of independence, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has initiated unprecedented reforms to support and rejuvenate this ailing region. Within a few years from now, the UT is likely to see a capacity addition of 3400 MW in the hydropower sector. Also, the availability of electricity has been increased in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. In addition, Revised Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) is being implemented at a cost of Rs. Along with this, he said that Rs 5641 crore has been arranged to ensure availability of quality electricity to all the citizens. However, there has been substantial capacity addition in the power generation, distribution and transmission sectors, an official said. In the last 70 years, only 3500 MW was harnessed out of a potential of 20,000 MW in Jammu and Kashmir. Once the full potential is harnessed, J&K will have surplus power and can become an energy exporter. However, in the last two years only about 3000 MW capacity projects have been revived and subsequently put on track for operation.
