A professor of J&K agricultural university in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir has been accused of sexual harassment by a girl student. After this, the police arrested the professor. Officials said on Saturday that the professor was arrested on Friday night.
The authorities had on Friday night suspended the accused professor and launched an inquiry against him after demonstrations broke out at Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) at Vandura campus in the north Kashmir district.
The students demanded strict action against the accused, who heads the Department of Agriculture Extension and Communication in the university.
Officials said police registered a case at Bomai police station and started investigation, following which the accused was arrested late on Friday night and is in police custody.
In an order, the registrar of the university said on Friday that the accused has been suspended with immediate effect.
