Every year, Google introduces a new version of the Android operating system.
In 2024, the new operating system is expected to be officially launched in October under the name Android 15. However, the beta version of this operating system has already been released, providing a glimpse of some new features.
This year’s operating system includes a significant number of AI-based features that will enhance the Android phone user experience. Let’s explore some of the new features that will transform how Android phones are used.
Private Space
This feature allows a specific part of the phone to be hidden, and accessible through a PIN code different from the main phone PIN code. With this feature, users can lock any app they want to keep away from others, ensuring that the app’s data and notifications remain confidential. In fact, users can hide the Private Space itself from others, and it will only be accessible via fingerprint.
More Secure Phone Calls
Google has designed Android 15 to prevent spam calls, providing users with protection from unwanted messages and calls. This feature will be helpful for users who are targets of criminal elements. Google is also including a feature called Identifier Disclosure Transparency in Android 15, which will be useful for high-risk users like journalists.
Improved Phone Performance
Android 15 will support devices using 16 KB pages, resulting in better phone performance. This means apps will open faster, the phone will consume less energy, the camera will launch more quickly, and the phone will turn on more swiftly.
Augmented Reality (AR) in Google Maps
Phones running Android 15 will be able to view AR content in Google Maps, helping users learn more about various locations. According to Google, initially, AR technology-based features will be available for a limited number of locations.
Harder for Thieves to Steal Phones
Google is including several features in Android 15 to protect Android phones from thieves. One such feature is the Theft Detection Lock. This feature uses AI technology to determine if someone has snatched the phone from your hand. If the feature detects theft, it automatically locks the device, making all data inaccessible.
Another feature is Factory Reset Protection. If someone tries to reset an Android device to factory settings, they will need to enter the device or Google account details. Without this information, the phone cannot be used, making it nearly impossible to erase data and resell the device.
Satellite Connectivity Support
Following Apple’s introduction of satellite connectivity support in the iPhone 14 series, Google has announced this feature in Android 15. Satellite support will allow users to send messages from areas where mobile signals are unavailable. This service will not be limited to emergencies but can be used in regular situations as well.
Offline Phone Tracking
Google is upgrading the Find My Device feature in Android 15. All phones running Android 15 will be able to locate each other via Bluetooth, making it easier for users to find lost devices. This offline tracking will keep the Bluetooth beacon signal active, even if the phone is turned off.
Improved Battery Life Management
Android 15 will offer users the ability to monitor their device’s battery health. Over time, a smartphone battery degrades and loses its ability to retain charge. The battery health feature will inform users about the battery’s original capacity percentage, helping them decide when it’s time to replace the battery.
Notification Cool Down
Another useful feature of Android 15 is Notification Cool Down. This feature helps reduce the volume of notifications from apps that send frequent alerts, preventing users from being overwhelmed by excessive notifications.
With these innovative features, Android 15 promises to provide a more secure, efficient, and user-friendly experience, significantly transforming the way users interact with their Android phones.
