Jammu (Azadi Times): Nimrata Sharma, the provincial president of her party’s women’s wing, along with other women leaders and workers, staged a peaceful protest against inflation and made court arrests:
Led by Nimrata, hundreds of women workers gathered outside the Press Club Jammu and protested against the rise in prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities.
Demonstrators chanted slogans against the administration and marched from the press club to Dogra Chowk, but were stopped by a large police force. There were scuffles but police did not allow them to proceed, after which the protesters made arrests.
Several women were taken into police custody as a precaution and later released. Vice President Puneet Kaur, Jyoti Wade, District Coordinator Sarabjit Kaur, Provincial Secretary Achhpal Kaur, Provincial Secretary Meenakshi, Provincial Secretary Rakhi, Parvinder Kaur, Monica, Rajni Devi, Parveen Kaur and Sunita Devi were also present in the protest.
Addressing the protesters, Sharma said that political parties in Jammu and Kashmir are silent on the problems faced by the people, especially women. His party will not remain silent on issues that are affecting the normal life of the people.
