Bemina, Budgam | Indian administered Kashmir: To mark the 36th anniversary of the demise of Imam Khomeini, the visionary leader and founder of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan organized a grand commemorative conference at Imambargah Ayatullah Yousuf (RA) in Bemina, Budgam.
The solemn event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by speeches from esteemed religious scholars and community leaders.
Imam Khomeini: The Leader Who Reshaped Islamic Politics
Speakers described Imam Khomeini as the most charismatic and revolutionary Islamic leader of the 20th century, who successfully dismantled Iran’s monarchy and established an Islamic system of governance despite intense opposition from global imperialist powers.
President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan, Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi Al-Mousvi, shed light on the life and legacy of Ayatullah Khomeini, calling him a Marja Taqleed, philosopher, poet, and a great political thinker. He emphasized Imam Khomeini’s profound knowledge of world history and global affairs, stating that his revolutionary thought transcended borders and brought lasting change to the Islamic world.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Pays Tribute
Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr. Umar Farooq, also addressed the gathering, paying glowing tributes to the late revolutionary leader. He highlighted Imam Khomeini’s message of unity and brotherhood, especially among the global Muslim community.
“Imam Khomeini taught us the lesson of unity and brotherhood — values that are more important than ever in today’s fragmented world,” said Mirwaiz.
“His commitment to justice and his bold stance for the oppressed still resonate globally.”
He also spoke about Imam Khomeini’s establishment of Youm al-Quds (Quds Day) — observed on the last Friday of Ramadan — as a day of global solidarity with the people of Palestine.
“Quds Day is not just symbolic. It reminds us of our moral obligation to stand with the oppressed, particularly our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” he added.
Honoring Local Religious Legacy
The event also honored the legacy of the late Allama Aga Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Mousvi, recognizing his lifetime contributions to the religious, educational, and social upliftment of the Kashmiri Shia community.
