AZADI TIMES – July 22, 2022 Colombo: Dinesh Ganawardena became the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka:

According to details, Sri Lanka’s Leader of the House and former Minister Dinesh Ganawardena took oath as the Prime Minister Sri Lanka.

According to Lincoln media, 73-year-old Dinesh Gunawardena took his oath of office in front of newly elected President Ranil Wickramasinghe at the Prime Minister’s Office on Flower Road on Friday morning.

Dinesh Gunawardena is a close associate of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. 

A political family ally, he was appointed Prime Minister by Ranil Wickremesinghe, who recently became the country’s president. He is a school friend and belongs to a famous political family. 

Protesters angry with Rajapakse over the economic collapse of the country had been sitting at the main protest camp near the presidential palace in Colombo for 104 days, which were vacated by the security forces. 

A few hours later, the new prime minister was sworn in. of the army and police Officials arrived in trucks and buses around midnight, and tore down tents and protest banners, blocking roads leading to the camp and erecting barricades. 

Security forces have also arrested several protesters and journalists have been beaten during the violence. Remember that the people of Sri Lanka have been on the streets for months demanding their leaders resign over the economic crisis. 

This has left 22 million Sri Lankans with severe shortages of essential goods such as medicine, food and fuel. The protests last week also ousted former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whose family ruled the country for two decades most of them ruled Sri Lanka.
