Pakistan Expresses Concern Over Attack on Tourists in Disputed Kashmir

Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over a deadly attack on tourists in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which left at least 26 people dead, including two foreigners, and 12 others injured.

The incident occurred at the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, of disputed Kashmir where gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists. According to Indian media reports, most of the victims were from the Indian states of Gujarat and Karnataka.

According to Geo News a Pakistani TV channel Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson issued a statement condemning the violence and extending condolences to the families of the deceased. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives in this tragic incident and pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, political leaders in the occupied valley, including former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, also condemned the attack. However, sections of the Indian media were quick to blame Pakistan without evidence—a recurring pattern following such incidents in the disputed region.

Kashmir remains one of the most militarized zones in the world, with frequent clashes between armed groups and Indian forces. The latest attack has raised fresh concerns over security in the region, particularly for tourists visiting the scenic valley.

Pakistan reiterated its call for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
