Lillehammer, Norway – Pakistani human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir has been awarded the prestigious Young Inspiration Award 2025 by the World Expression Forum (WEXFO) for her unwavering commitment to the rule of law and justice in Pakistan.
The award ceremony took place during WEXFO’s annual conference in Lillehammer, Norway, where Philippine Nobel Laureate Maria Ressa presented the honour to Mazari. Ressa lauded her for demonstrating “extraordinary courage, integrity, and impact in the struggle for the rule of law and justice.”
According to WEXFO, Mazari’s outspoken advocacy has made her a role model for a new generation of lawyers and students, especially women, inspiring hope and optimism. Despite facing significant pressures, she continues to defend Pakistan’s most vulnerable and marginalised communities through legal, nonviolent, and ethical resistance.
Digital rights expert and activist Usama Khilji praised Mazari for her “fearless courage” and for inspiring young people during challenging times. Similarly, rights activist Sammi Deen Baloch expressed her delight at Mazari’s recognition, highlighting her as a formidable defender of free speech and human rights.
In a country where advocating for human rights and free expression often entails significant risks, Mazari’s resilience and dedication stand as a testament to her commitment to justice and the fundamental right to speak freely.
