The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran against Iran’s alleged cyber attack in NATO ally Albania.

According to the US Department of Treasury, Iran’s Ministry of Security and Intelligence and its minister Ismail Khatib have been sanctioned against the cyber attack in Albania.

U.S. sanctions can freeze the assets of a blacklisted person or organization in the U.S. region while also preventing the U.S. citizen or organization from doing business with those individuals.

It should be noted that there was a cyber attack on government websites in Albania on July 15. The investigation blamed Iranian cyber groups for the cyber attack, after which Albania cut off diplomatic relations with Iran.

Iran has not yet commented on the new US sanctions.
