Muzaffarabad: The authorities in Pakistani-administered Jammu and Kashmir have reportedly blocked major roads ahead of the scheduled long march organized by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Avani Action Committee.

The long march, aimed at highlighting basic rights issues in the region, was set to converge in the capital, Muzaffarabad, drawing participants from all major cities and towns of Azad Kashmir.

Reports indicate that key routes, including the road from Kotli to Bhimber and Muzaffarabad to Rawlakot, have been obstructed with heavy stones and mud by AJK authorities.

This move has sparked outrage among activists and demonstrators, who view it as an attempt to stifle their right to peaceful protest.

Furthermore, tensions escalated as AJK police allegedly targeted protesters, leading to clashes and confrontations along the blocked routes. Witnesses have claimed instances of police interference and the forcible prevention of demonstrators from exercising their right to assemble.

In response to the roadblocks and police actions, the Joint Avani Action Committee issued a statement, urging its supporters to mobilize and bring equipment to clear the obstructed roads, allowing the long march to proceed towards Muzaffarabad.

This directive underscores the determination of activists to overcome obstacles and ensure their voices are heard on the issues of basic rights and governance in Azad Kashmir.

As the situation continues to unfold, concerns are mounting regarding the escalation of tensions and the potential for further clashes between protesters and law enforcement authorities.

The fate of the long march hangs in the balance, with both sides entrenched in their respective positions amidst a backdrop of simmering discontent and demands for meaningful change.
