Jhelum Valley Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Foreign Residents

0

Hattian Bala: (Azadi Times) In a proactive move to implement the National Action Plan, the Jhelum Valley district administration and police have initiated a robust operation targeting illegal foreign residents (non state) in the Hattian Bala.

Late-night raids by Hattian Bala resulted in the apprehension of non-registered and non-state individuals, who were subsequently handed over to the city police station after filing cases against them.

Under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Jhelum, Syed Ashfaq Gilani, and SSP Jhelum, Valley Marza Zahid Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Hattian Bala Iyaz Ahmed Chughtai, along with SHO City Naveed ul Hassan, led the operation, which took place on Thursday and Friday nights.

Thirteen foreign individuals (non state) residing in hotels, rented residential rooms, and shops were arrested during the operation, and legal proceedings were initiated against them under sections 55/109, leading to their detention.

Recent incidents, including the abduction attempt of a student from a swimming club and an endeavor to lure a two-year-old girl from Chinar Village by a foreign national, prompted swift action from the district administration and police against illegally residing foreign individuals.

Assistant Commissioner Hattian Bala Iyaz Chughtai emphasized the ongoing stringent measures, including search operations and legal actions, against such individuals across the district.

Property owners were reminded of their obligation to inform the local police station when renting out accommodation, shops, or rooms to foreigners.

Failure to comply with this requirement would result in strict legal consequences as part of the National Action Plan. Local residents were advised to ensure that foreign individuals sign lease agreements with the local police to avoid legal repercussions and disturbances.

Mirpur: Ali Qadir, a hardworking young man, faced a horrifying ordeal while commuting from Mirpur to Mangla. He got entangled in a hanging cable TV wire while riding his motorcycle, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported that Ali Qadir was seen writhing in pain after the accident. Promptly, other workers present at the scene, who were engaged in late-night cable repair work, rushed to his aid. They immediately transferred the severely injured young man to a government hospital for medical treatment.

Later, upon receiving initial medical assistance, Ali Qadir was discharged from the hospital and sent back home. However, his condition remains critical, raising concerns among his family and community members.

According to details, the cable is owned by a local resident named Sharif, who operates under the name “A TO Z Cable” in the Chatter Mangla area. Ali Qadir, son of Muhammad Younis, a resident of Sab Check, Mangla, was returning home after completing his tailoring work at the Mall Plaza when the incident occurred.

Witnesses reported that the negligence of the cable workers, who were operating without proper safety measures, led to the hanging wire entangling Ali Qadir. As a result, he fell to the ground, resembling a fish out of water, before being rushed to the nearby hospital.

It is pertinent to mention that several incidents involving cable workers have resulted in fatalities due to the lack of safety precautions and awareness about the dangers associated with cable operations. The community demands swift action from the authorities to prevent such accidents in the future and ensure the safety of citizens.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of implementing proper safety protocols and raising awareness among cable operators and workers to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.

Hattian Bala: (Azadi Times) In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Hafiz Chowk witnesses a distressing incident as Syed Talib Hussain Shah, a resident of Hattian Bala, immolates himself amidst a land dispute. The dispute, reportedly, had escalated tensions in the area, leading to this extreme act.

According to sources, the dispute over land ownership had been brewing for some time, with both parties entrenched in a legal battle. However, the situation took a tragic turn when Shah, feeling the weight of injustice and allegedly succumbing to pressure from local mafias, decided to take matters into his own hands.

Eyewitnesses recount the harrowing scene as Shah, in a state of distress, poured petrol over himself before igniting the flames. Prompt intervention from bystanders prevented further harm, but Shah sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to CMH Muzaffarabad in critical condition.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, who question the efficacy of the justice system in resolving such disputes and protecting the vulnerable. Calls for accountability and justice echo through the community, demanding an end to the cycle of violence and exploitation.

As the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, the broader implications of unchecked disputes and the plight of marginalized individuals in the face of systemic challenges come to the forefront. The need for comprehensive reforms and a concerted effort to address underlying issues becomes increasingly urgent in the pursuit of a just society.

In the wake of this tragedy, the question lingers: where is justice when it is needed the most? The incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and injustices embedded within society, urging stakeholders to take meaningful action towards a more equitable future.

Challenges Faced by Azad Kashmir Newspaper Vendors Highlighted Amid Flour Crisis

0

Muzaffarabad (Azadi Times): Even during the blessed month of Ramadan, newspaper vendors, who are the backbone of the newspaper industry, struggle to obtain government flour to feed their children.

They lament the disparity, questioning why government aid seems reserved for the affluent while neglecting the needs of the poor. Despite complaints to Prime Minister Azad Kashmir and futile attempts to engage the Secretary of Food, the issue remains unresolved.

The Distribution and Food Control Department’s (DFC) efforts appear limited to mere photo sessions, failing to address the pressing issue of government flour scarcity.

In response to the dire situation, newspaper vendors staged a protest, criticizing the government and the food department for their indifference. Speaking to the media, representatives of the newspaper vendor union voiced frustration, highlighting that government flour appears to be reserved solely for the privileged few. Despite repeated appeals and communication with the DFC in Muzaffarabad, their pleas seem to fall on deaf ears.

Newspaper vendors play a vital role in ensuring newspapers reach doorsteps and offices promptly, regardless of weather conditions. Yet, they lament being neglected and treated unfairly by the state.

They call upon the Azad Kashmir government to take immediate action to address the plight of newspaper vendors in Muzaffarabad division and across the entire state. Failing intervention, they threaten to escalate their protest to a statewide campaign.

Exploring the Link

Through these elections, individuals are elected as representatives who are accountable to their respective constituencies. This system fosters a sense of ownership among the citizens and allows them to actively engage in shaping their communities.

Moreover, local bodies serve as a bridge between the government and the people. They act as intermediaries, voicing the concerns and aspirations of their constituents to higher authorities. This ensures that the needs and priorities of the local population are taken into consideration during policy-making processes.

Opposition Faced

Despite their significance, local body elections in Azad Kashmir have faced opposition from both the federal government and certain political parties. The federal government has been reluctant to provide adequate security forces for these elections, raising concerns about potential interference or disruption by external elements. Additionally, some political parties have opposed local elections due to their fear of losing control over power dynamics at the grassroots level.

However, despite these challenges, Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq’s administration successfully conducted local body elections. Despite facing opposition from various quarters, his strong leadership ensured that these elections were held, allowing for increased democratic participation and accountability at the local level.

In conclusion, local body elections hold immense significance in ensuring accountability in Azad Kashmir. They provide an avenue for citizens to actively participate in decision-making processes and hold their elected representatives accountable. The successful conduction of these elections under Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq’s administration is a testament to the commitment towards transparent and accountable governance. By prioritizing local democracy, Azad Kashmir takes a crucial step forward in establishing effective accountability mechanisms that benefit the welfare of its people.

Conclusion

The prospects of the new Accountability Bureau in Azad Kashmir to deliver on its mandate are fraught with both challenges and opportunities.
