For your information, let us tell you that Saturday night was the coldest night of the season in Srinagar and Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir. The minimum temperature in Jammu was 4.1 degrees Celsius, down 4.1 notches against normal, and minus 5.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, down 3.8 notches against normal. In Jammu, however, the minimum temperature has not dropped more than in the last four years.
Along with this, due to continuous fall in the minimum temperature for the last two days, till December 31, the mercury may fall further. It is getting bitterly cold in Kashmir amidst Chille Kalan. In Leh and Kargil too, due to high mercury fall in many places, water in the taps is freezing.
According to the information, according to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, there may be rain and snowfall in some parts of the state on Monday. The weather will remain affected on December 29 as well. Jammu started Sunday with dense fog. Till 11 am, the city and surrounding areas were covered with fog. Here the minimum temperature has dropped 7 degrees below normal to 13.4 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest day of the season. Last night’s minimum temperature was minus 0.3 in Banihal, 0.6 in Batote, 5.8 in Katra, minus 1.0 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah.
Day as well as night temperatures continued to drop in most districts of Kashmir. The day temperature in Srinagar has also dropped below normal to reach 7.6 degree Celsius. Last night’s minimum temperature was minus 5.0 in Qazigund, minus 7.0 in Pahalgam. Apart from this, minus 6.0 was recorded in Kupwara, minus 2.2 in Kokernag and minus 5.6 degree Celsius in Gulmarg. Last night’s minimum temperature was minus 14.5 degrees Celsius in Leh and minus 12.4 degrees Celsius in Kargil.
