Kotli, Azad Kashmir: (Azadi Times) A fishing boat carrying migrants from Libya to Italy capsized off the coast of southern Greece on Friday, killing more than 700 people. 100 people were rescued, including 2 residents of Kotli, Azad Kashmir.
The Pakistani embassy in Greece has confirmed that 12 Pakistanis have been rescued. The embassy has contacted the relevant Greek authorities and is working to help the survivors.
The two Kotli residents who have been rescued are Muhammad Adnan Bashir and Haseeb-ur-Rehman. They are both in their early 20s and were traveling to Europe in search of a better life.
The other 10 survivors are from all over Pakistan, including Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sheikhupura, Mandi Bahauddin, and Sialkot.
The rescue work is still ongoing, but the chances of finding any more survivors are slim. Most of the people on board the boat were young people, women, and children who were trying to enter Europe illegally.
The Pakistani embassy has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The embassy is also providing assistance to the survivors and their families.
