The delegation of UNICEF, led by Country Representative Abdullah A. Fadel, met with Azad Kashmir Health Minister Nisar Ansar Abdali, and discussed the ongoing projects and challenges faced by UNICEF in the health sector in Azad Kashmir. Secretary Public Health Major General Zaheer Akhtar, Director General Public Health Dr. Sardar Aftab, Program Manager EPI Dr. Abdul Sattar, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Health Syeda Asma Andrabi, In-charge MNCH Program Dr. Farhat and others were also present in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Public Health Minister Dr. Nisar Ansar Abdali said that UNICEF has been cooperating with us in the health sector in Azad Kashmir before and we hope that the cooperation will continue in the future. UNICEF should cooperate with us to establish Health Care Commission, Health Foundation and conduct Donors Conference in Azad Kashmir. We want to set up a monitoring and evaluation cell in the health sector so that further improvements can be made in this sector. We also need support from UNICEF for training and technical support for public health staff and lady health workers. Speaking on the occasion, UNICEF Country Representative Abdullah A. Fadel said that the health sector is included in the mandate of UNICEF. We are setting up our work plan with reference to it and in another four to six weeks we will be able to prepare a preliminary draft of our work plan. UNICEF will support the Department of Health for the donor conference being organized in Azad Kashmir. We will include the priorities of the department in our work plan so that the work plan can be formulated as per the need of the department and improve the health sector in Azad Kashmir.
