Dadyal: A laborer’s request for his due wages turned into a violent encounter, leaving him severely injured.
The incident took place in the Haveli area of Dadyal, Azad Kashmir (Pakistan-administrred) where Muhammad Akram, son of Ali Shan, allegedly shot Binyamin, son of Alam Din Gujar, for asking for his payment.
According to details, Binyamin had gone to Akram’s house to collect his wages for harvesting wheat, which amounted to thirty to forty thousand rupees. Akram, enraged by Binyamin’s request, began hurling abuses and questioned his audacity to ask for money at his home.
In the heat of the moment, Akram pulled out a rifle and shot Binyamin, severely injuring him. The attack left Binyamin with a fractured leg.
The injured Binyamin was immediately taken to THQ Hospital Dadyal for treatment and later referred to Mirpur for further medical care. In a statement to the media, Binyamin recounted the incident, explaining how Akram had summoned him for work and then refused to pay the agreed amount.
When Binyamin insisted on his payment, Akram lost his temper and fired at him. Binyamin also mentioned that Akram threatened to kill him, but the timely intervention of other laborers and local residents saved his life.
This violent act has raised serious concerns about the safety and rights of laborers in the Azad Jammu Kashmir.
