AZADI TIMES – Murmu first hit the headlines in 2017 when her name was rumored to be among the names being considered by the BJP ahead of that year’s presidential election.
She was then serving as the Governor of the state of Jharkhand. Born on 20 June 1958 in Bedaposi village of Mayurbhanj district, Draupadi Murmu belongs to the Santhal community, one of the oldest and largest tribal groups in India.

Starting her career as a clerk in the Odisha government office, she served as a junior assistant in the Irrigation and Energy Department from 1979-1983.

Her political career began in 1997 when he contested the municipal elections in Rairangpur, a town near his hometown, as a councillor. Elected.
As a member of the BJP, she was elected to the state assembly twice from the Rairangpur seat in 2000 and 2009.
From 2000-2004, she was a minister in the coalition government of the state, led by the Biju Janata. Dil Party’s Naveen Patnaik was doing it.
Initially, she was in charge of Commerce and Transport.
She later held the portfolios of the Department of Fisheries and Animal Welfare. From 2006 to 2009, Draupati Murmu was the president of the BJP’s state wing for ‘Scheduled Tribes’, tribal communities who are socially and economically excluded by the Constitution of India.
Droupadi Murmu quit active politics in 2015 after being appointed as the first woman governor of the neighboring state of Jharkhand.
She was also the first tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed as the governor of a state. Gaya and held the post for six years till July 2021.
