In a land divided by lines and narratives, The Azadi Times was born to tell what others choose to ignore. Founded in 2020 in Muzaffarabad, Jammu & Kashmir, it began as a movement — a call for journalism that belongs neither to controlling states, but to the people who live the story.
From conflict zones and mountain valleys to refugee camps and city protests, we document truth that transcends political boundaries. Our reporters, photographers, and contributors share one belief: the world deserves to hear Kashmir in its own voice.
We reject sensationalism and state propaganda. Every word we publish is backed by verification, integrity, and courage. We believe that journalism must humanize — not weaponize — the truth.
Atif Maqbool
Founder & Youth Politician, Muzaffarabad
Atif Maqbool, a Kashmiri youth politician and journalist, founded The Azadi Times with a vision to build an independent media platform that could challenge state-controlled narratives and amplify unheard voices from the region. Raised amid political uncertainty, he witnessed how truth about Kashmir was often written elsewhere — reshaped by interests that neither lived nor understood its pain. Through The Azadi Times, he aims to restore that truth to the people it belongs to.
