Azad Jammu and Kashmir Implements Advanced POS Invoicing System to Boost Tax Compliance

Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir: In a significant move to enhance tax transparency and revenue collection, the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has rolled out a state-of-the-art Point of Sale (POS) Invoicing System across five major business outlets and brands in the Mirpur and Muzaffarabad districts. This initiative, part of a broader digitalization drive, aims to streamline tax documentation and curb off-the-books transactions.

Key Developments:
The newly integrated system, dubbed the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Point of Sale Invoicing System, has been activated at prominent brands including Dinner, ECS, MTJ, Spire, and Indoors. This follows the successful implementation of the system earlier at high-profile retail chains such as Khadi, KFC, Alkaram, Ideas, and Ethnic, in collaboration with Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL).

Rigorous Monitoring and Compliance:
A Special Task Force, constituted by Commissioner Inland Revenue Syed Unsar Ali, is conducting round-the-clock surveillance to ensure strict adherence to the new regulations. The task force’s mandate includes verifying that all invoices generated at these outlets feature:
– A QR code linked to the AJK POS system.
– A unique invoice number registered in the tax database.

Deputy Commissioners of the Inland revenue department are personally overseeing operations to prevent violations and ensure seamless tax collection. “Our goal is to eliminate discrepancies and guarantee timely revenue for the government,” said a department spokesperson.### Challenges and Outlook:
While the system has been welcomed as a progressive step, some retailers have raised concerns about initial technical glitches and compliance costs. However, authorities remain confident that the long-term benefits including reduced fraud and streamlined audits will outweigh these hurdles.

The AJK government has signaled plans to integrate all major business sectors into the digital framework by mid-2026, marking a transformative shift in the region’s fiscal governance.
