Unstoppable Series of Wildfires Engulfing Samahni Valley’s Lush Forests

Samahni: The relentless onslaught of wildfires continues to ravage the verdant forests of Samahni Valley, with no sign of abating. Fires have erupted sporadically across various blocks, defying efforts by the government of Azad Kashmir and the Department of Forests to implement effective fire prevention measures.

The combination of scorching sun and forest fires has dangerously escalated temperatures, resulting in widespread smoke and haze, exacerbating the intensity of the heat.

Infiltration by nefarious elements, intent on igniting the forests, has further complicated containment efforts. Sudden outbreaks of fire during the night have added to the challenges faced by authorities.

On Monday night, a blaze engulfed vast swathes of forest in Khamba Block, reducing it to ashes. Wildlife, including birds and their habitats, fell victim to the inferno. The cacophony of distressed wildlife echoed through the burning forests, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Efforts by forest department personnel and civil society members to control the blaze were hampered by insufficient resources and inadequate facilities.

However, the spread of the fire continued unabated, reaching the foothills of the towering Peer Tatu Peak and advancing towards popular forest areas like Baduthiya Park, Khairabaghla, and Gadhawain.

Despite relentless efforts, authorities have been unable to bring the raging inferno under control. Citizens, cognizant of the severity of the situation, have called upon the government of Azad Kashmir to adopt more effective strategies and provide better resources to combat the fires.

They have also demanded the activation of rescue agencies and the enforcement of strict laws against arsonists.

Concerns have been raised regarding the impending fire season, prompting calls for preemptive defensive measures to protect the region’s environment from further devastation.
