Overview

jammu Kashmir Students Action Committee (JKSAC) is a coalition of student organizations in pakistan administered Kashmir (Azad Jammu & Kashmir), advocating for educational reforms, student rights, and socio-political justice. It serves as a unified platform to address systemic challenges in AJK's education sector and amplify student voices in policy-making.

2024 Charter of Demands

JKSAC formulated an 11-point charter highlighting critical student issues:

  • Announcement of student union elections schedule
  • Inclusion of Jammu & Kashmir studies in curriculum
  • Increased scholarships and quotas for Kashmiri students in Pakistan
  • Allocation of 10% of AJK's budget for education
  • Lifting restrictions on student freedom of expression
  • Provision of adequate hostel facilities
  • Anti-harassment committees with student representation
  • Curriculum modernization
  • Abolition of semester system
  • Unemployment registration and allowances
  • Dissolution of bogus university inquiry committees

Key Activities

  • Organized mass protests in 2024 supporting JKJAAC's movement for economic reforms
  • Mobilized students during 2023 Gaza solidarity rallies in AJK
  • Regular engagement with government authorities on policy changes
  • Drafting policy proposals for educational reforms

Political Engagement

JKSAC played a pivotal role in the 2024 JKJAAC protests that secured government concessions including Rs. 23 billion subsidy, wheat/electricity price reductions, and establishment of judicial commissions. The committee maintains alliances with civil society groups while emphasizing its non-partisan student focus.

Controversies

While JKSAC maintains its demands are non-political, some university administrations have accused it of disrupting academic activities. The committee counters that it only exercises students' constitutional right to peaceful protest.
