Curfew Continues in Skardu Amid Deadly Protests

Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan (Pakistan administered Kahsmir) – Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have announced that the curfew in Skardu district will remain in place until further notice, following violent protests triggered by the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Reports indicate that at least 14 people lost their lives during the unrest.

In an official statement, the government described the curfew as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and restore stability in the district. Officials emphasized that any potential easing of restrictions will be communicated separately after thorough security assessments.

Residents have been urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and to rely solely on information from official sources for updates. The curfew restricts public gatherings, vehicle movement, and access to key areas to prevent further escalation of violence.

Analysts note that the ongoing tensions reflect both local sensitivities and wider regional reactions, given the strong response in Gilgit-Baltistan to international events. Security officials have warned that violating curfew orders could lead to strict enforcement measures.

This development adds to the complex security landscape in Gilgit-Baltistan, a disputed territory claimed by both Pakistan and India, where civil unrest can quickly escalate due to the region’s political sensitivities.
