World News Desk: A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House ended in bitter exchanges, prompting Zelenskyy to emphasize the indispensability of American support for his country.
The meeting, which took place on Friday, was marked by heated arguments, leading Zelenskyy to leave the discussions prematurely. Following the incident, Zelenskyy took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to release a lengthy statement, asserting, “The support of President Trump is crucial for us.” He added, “He (President Trump) wants to end the war, but no one desires peace more than we do.”
The meeting was initially intended to include the signing of a minerals agreement between the two nations, but the tense atmosphere prevented this from happening. In his statement, Zelenskyy expressed readiness to sign the agreement, describing it as a preliminary step toward security guarantees.
After the White House meeting, Zelenskyy traveled to London to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European allies. He is also scheduled to meet with King Charles III during his visit.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has labeled Zelenskyy’s visit to the U.S. as a “complete political and diplomatic failure.”
