‘Lakeer’: First-Ever Pahari Feature Film to Premiere on JKTV

Muzaffarabad / London: A historic moment for Pahari language and culture is set to unfold with the premiere of Lakeer, the first-ever full-length feature film in the Pahari language, scheduled to air on 11 February 2026 at 6:00 PM (UK Time) exclusively on Jammu & Kashmir Television (JKTV).

The film marks a significant cultural milestone, bringing the lived experiences, emotions, and collective memory of the Pahari-speaking communities to the screen for the very first time in cinematic form.

A Story Rooted in History and Identity

Lakeer is a deeply emotional narrative that explores life in Mirpur and Jammu before and after the partition of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Through themes of love, loss, politics, community bonds, and fractured families, the film captures the silent pain and resilience of generations affected by displacement and division.

Rather than presenting history as distant facts, Lakeer tells it through human relationships, making it a story that resonates far beyond borders—especially with Kashmiris living in the diaspora.

Creative Minds Behind the Film

The film is written by Ali Adalat, a prominent Pahari-language writer and public figure, who also serves as a Councillor and Deputy Leader at Rochdale Council (UK). His writing brings linguistic authenticity and emotional depth, reflecting voices that have long remained underrepresented in mainstream cinema.

Lakeer is produced by Muhammad Nazim Bhatti, whose efforts have been instrumental in turning this long-awaited vision into reality.

First Online Release on JKTV

JKTV earns a unique distinction by becoming the first platform to broadcast this historic film globally, making it accessible to audiences across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.

For Kashmiri and Pahari-speaking diaspora communities, the film offers a rare opportunity to reconnect with their language, homeland, and shared heritage through the power of storytelling.

A Cultural Milestone

More than a film, Lakeer represents a cultural assertion—proof that regional languages like Pahari have stories worthy of global attention and cinematic preservation.

Viewers are encouraged to tune in on
11 February 2026 at 6:00 PM (UK Time)
