In Yemen, 16 killed in US-UK attacks: Houthi TV

Houthi-controlled television reported on Friday that 16 people were killed and 35 wounded in American and British attacks on the province of Al-Hudaydah in Yemen.

The TV channel has informed that in the attacks, a radio building in the Al-Hawk district of Hudaydah and the port of Al-Salif were targeted.

American and British forces said that they launched attacks against Houthi targets in Yemen on Thursday in an attempt to prevent further disruption to shipping in the Red Sea.

The US Central Command said in a statement that American and British forces targeted 13 objectives in areas under Houthi control.

The British Ministry of Defense said that in joint action, three locations in the port city of Al-Hudaydah, on the Red Sea coast, were targeted where drones and ground-to-air weapons were present.

The British Ministry of Defense said in a statement, “As always, extreme caution was taken in planning attacks to minimize the risk to civilians or non-military infrastructure.”

The statement further said, “Attacks during the darkness will further reduce such risks.”

Unstoppable Series of Wildfires Engulfing Samahni Valley’s Lush Forests

Samahni: The relentless onslaught of wildfires continues to ravage the verdant forests of Samahni Valley, with no sign of abating. Fires have erupted sporadically across various blocks, defying efforts by the government of Azad Kashmir and the Department of Forests to implement effective fire prevention measures.

The combination of scorching sun and forest fires has dangerously escalated temperatures, resulting in widespread smoke and haze, exacerbating the intensity of the heat.

Infiltration by nefarious elements, intent on igniting the forests, has further complicated containment efforts. Sudden outbreaks of fire during the night have added to the challenges faced by authorities.

On Monday night, a blaze engulfed vast swathes of forest in Khamba Block, reducing it to ashes. Wildlife, including birds and their habitats, fell victim to the inferno. The cacophony of distressed wildlife echoed through the burning forests, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Efforts by forest department personnel and civil society members to control the blaze were hampered by insufficient resources and inadequate facilities.

However, the spread of the fire continued unabated, reaching the foothills of the towering Peer Tatu Peak and advancing towards popular forest areas like Baduthiya Park, Khairabaghla, and Gadhawain.

Despite relentless efforts, authorities have been unable to bring the raging inferno under control. Citizens, cognizant of the severity of the situation, have called upon the government of Azad Kashmir to adopt more effective strategies and provide better resources to combat the fires.

They have also demanded the activation of rescue agencies and the enforcement of strict laws against arsonists.

Concerns have been raised regarding the impending fire season, prompting calls for preemptive defensive measures to protect the region’s environment from further devastation.

Israel’s Ground Operation in Rafah Not Crossed American Red Lines: White House

Amidst escalating tensions in the Rafah region, Israel’s military action targeting a refugee camp has drawn condemnation from the United States.

Despite orders from the International Court to halt operations in Rafah, Israeli forces carried out intense bombing on a refugee camp on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of numerous civilians, including women and children, and leaving scores wounded.

The operation in Rafah, initiated by Israeli forces, persisted despite orders from the International Court to immediately cease all military actions.

According to reports, Israeli forces seized control of a strategically important mountainous area in the city center of Rafah on Sunday, which overlooks the border with Egypt and other regions.

White House spokesperson John Kirby addressed the situation during a press conference just hours before the Israeli forces’ seizure of the mountainous area in Rafah.

Kirby expressed concern over Israel’s extensive military operation in Rafah, emphasizing the need to avoid civilian casualties.

In response to questions about the ongoing operation in Rafah, Kirby stated that the United States does not perceive Israel’s actions as consistent with a full-scale military operation in the region.

He reiterated the U.S. policy of not supporting ground operations in Rafah and underscored the importance of de-escalation.

Israeli authorities have defended their actions in Rafah, stating that they targeted Hamas, a Palestinian resistance organization, during the bombing.

However, Kirby emphasized that the images emerging from the attacks are deeply disturbing and called for the protection of innocent lives.

Regarding concerns about Israel’s violation of designated boundaries, Kirby reaffirmed President Biden’s stance, stating that if Israeli forces enter populated areas in Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians reside, the United States will halt the supply of weapons to Israel.

Kirby clarified that as of now, Israel has not been prevented from receiving weapons as they have not conducted a full-scale operation in populated areas of Rafah. Instead, the Israeli forces’ actions have been limited to border regions of Rafah.

The Quandary of Jammu Kashmir’s movement for Independence: A Call for Uncompromising Clarity and Unity

    By Dr Toqeer Gilani

In Jammu and Kashmir, the majority of its people find themselves trapped in a peculiar confusion when it comes to expressing their aspirations for freedom.

While this confusion might have been inevitable in the past due to certain compelling circumstances, it has now become a ludicrous and perilous act to turn this confusion into a national narrative or a practical approach. Astonishingly, even today, numerous freedom-loving leaders and activists, alongside the general public, engage in perplexing, convoluted, and uninformed discussions regarding the issue of Jammu Kashmir’s freedom.

In the current circumstances, certain fundamental truths need to be understood not only by the freedom enthusiasts but also by the general public, and they must be articulated openly, clearly, and unambiguously.

Firstly, it is crucial to acknowledge that the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir is under occupation, with both India and Pakistan exerting control, and a portion of it has also been handed over to China.

Secondly, complaining or accusing Pakistan of not supporting us or abandoning us is a gross misrepresentation that has persistently occurred in the past. It is equivalent to making a mockery of our own plight. You are not mentally or emotionally accepting a country occupying your land; rather, you are considering it your savior or friend. Especially in situations where the entire history of the past 76 years is crystal clear before you, such statements amount to nothing but ignorance and acts of hostility.

Thirdly, any group or organization that collaborates with either Pakistan or India cannot be deemed a freedom-loving group or organization. It is imperative to disassociate from all such groups and organizations.

Fourthly, as a consequence of the Shimla Agreement, both India and Pakistan have transformed the issue into a bilateral matter, sidelining the need for a plebiscite. The actions taken since August 5, 2019, have further undermined the significance of United Nations resolutions.

Therefore, demanding that the issue be resolved through United Nations resolutions is an exercise in futility and simply a tactic employed by occupiers to maintain their control and sustain their interests through their machinery and beneficiaries.

Fifthly, and most importantly, as a nation, we must demand an end to all forms of occupation and strive for complete and simultaneous independence from both India and Pakistan without any historical baggage or conditionalities. The world does not need us to explain how it should treat us; it is more discerning than us, and that is why it is free. The free world will chart its own course of support for us, provided we demand freedom and present ourselves as a unified nation.

Attaining freedom is possible, and it is within reach. All we need to do is openly and unequivocally demand the complete and simultaneous withdrawal of India and Pakistan’s control and claim our rights. As long as we remain perplexed about our own issue, it will be impossible for the world to understand and support us.

In conclusion, the people of Jammu and Kashmir find themselves in a perplexing situation when it comes to expressing their aspirations for freedom.

To overcome this confusion, it is essential to recognize the occupation, dissociate from collaborating groups, reject false narratives, and demand complete and simultaneous independence. Only then can we hope to gain the support and understanding of the world in our pursuit of freedom.
