NATO Summit in Washington: Demand for China to Cease Support to Russia

Washington, D.C. (Azadi Times) – In a declaration issued on Wednesday, NATO leaders accused China of aiding Russia in the Ukraine war and posing challenges to U.S. and European security. The declaration called on Beijing to cease all political and defense assistance to Moscow, stating, “China, through its ‘no limits partnership’ and substantial support for Russia’s defense industry, has become a decisive enabler of Russia’s war against Ukraine.” The alliance warned that China’s support in Europe’s largest ongoing conflict in recent history would negatively impact its interests and reputation.

In response, Beijing angrily rejected NATO’s allegations, asserting that the U.S.-led alliance is seeking an excuse to expand its influence eastward.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters that the alliance’s message to China is clear and unambiguous, accusing Beijing of providing critical support to Russia’s war in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of this message, although NATO does not impose sanctions on any country. The summit, he said, conveyed a strong and unequivocal stance from NATO.

During Wednesday’s NATO meeting, the alliance discussed intensifying efforts to support Ukraine and strengthening mutual defense. These discussions have been ongoing for several months, including meetings earlier this year among the alliance’s foreign ministers.

The Wednesday meeting concluded with a dinner hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House.

NATO Faces Greatest Challenge in Its 75-Year History

On Tuesday, President Biden delivered a resolute speech, affirming that NATO is stronger than ever. He remarked, “This historic moment demands our collective strength.” Biden highlighted that autocrats have been attempting to alter the global order for the past 80 years and that terrorist groups continue to devise malicious schemes to sow chaos, with Putin’s aggression in Ukraine being a significant threat. He warned that Ukraine stands as the primary obstacle to Putin’s ambitions.

On the second day of the three-day NATO summit, over 30 national leaders convened. The Prime Ministers of the Netherlands and Denmark, along with President Biden, announced that their governments would supply Ukraine with U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that the first batch of F-16 fighter jets would be transferred to Ukraine. Speaking at the summit, Blinken stated that these jets are being sent from Denmark and the Netherlands, reaffirming global leaders’ commitment to supporting Kyiv at the NATO summit in Washington, D.C.

Who Was Gilaman Wazir, the PTM Leader Who Passed Away in Islamabad?

Islamabad, Pakistan (Azadi Times): Gilaman Wazir, a senior leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), has succumbed to his injuries following an attack in Islamabad. Wazir, known for his influential role in PTM, was assaulted on Saturday night. His colleagues had named Azad Dawar, a leader from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his associates, as the perpetrators.

The assault left Wazir with severe head and body injuries, leading to his hospitalization at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, where he passed away on Wednesday night.

According to the FIR, a dispute between Wazir and Dawar arose after a vehicle collision on the first day of Eid. This altercation escalated, resulting in Wazir being attacked with sticks by Dawar and his companions in Islamabad.

PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen announced Wazir’s death to the gathered supporters at the hospital.

Who Was Gilaman Wazir?

Born Hazrat Naeem, Gilaman Wazir hailed from the tribal district of North Waziristan, near the Afghan border. He was widely recognized among the Pashtun community globally. After Manzoor Pashteen and Ali Wazir, he was considered one of PTM’s key leaders.

Wazir came from a very poor family in the Asad Khel area of Razmak Tehsil. He was residing in Bahrain in 2018 when Manzoor Pashteen and Ali Wazir founded PTM.

According to PTM leader Alamzeb Mehsud, during his time in Bahrain, Wazir not only joined PTM but also returned to Pakistan to participate in various rallies, where he recited revolutionary poetry and speeches.

Arrest through Interpol

Wazir’s prominence within PTM led the Pakistani government to seek his arrest through Interpol. He was arrested in Bahrain on February 6, 2020, and transferred to Pakistan on March 8, 2020.

He was accused of inciting anti-state sentiments through his poetry and statements and of funding PTM while living in Bahrain. According to PTM leader Eid Rahman, Wazir was arrested multiple times between 2020 and 2023. He spent more than six months in the custody of security agencies, during which he was detained in jails in Peshawar, Bannu, and Multan.

PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen stated that several friends of Azad Dawar attacked Wazir in Islamabad, causing injuries that the local doctors could not treat effectively. A travel ban was also imposed on him.

Pashteen had earlier released a video statement about Wazir’s deteriorating health at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad.

Case Registered in Islamabad

A case was registered at the Sangjani police station in Islamabad against Azad Dawar and his associates for the attack on Wazir.

Sangjani Police Station SHO Ashiq Khan stated on July 10 that the suspect had been identified, and CCTV footage had been obtained. However, the suspect is absconding, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.

The police officer informed the media that attempts are being made to send police to North Waziristan to arrest the suspects, but permission to enter Waziristan has not yet been granted.

Legal and Political Background

Cases against Wazir and other PTM members were filed in 2019, leading to an Interpol request on January 27, 2020. Based on this request, Wazir was arrested in Bahrain on February 6, 2020.

He was transferred to Pakistan on March 8, 2020, and handed over to security agencies. Wazir spent nearly two years in jail and was released on court orders.

According to PTM leaders, Wazir’s body will be transported to North Waziristan, with stops along the way for people to pay their respects.

TikTok Reunites Georgian Twins Separated by Human Trafficking

The vast world of the video platform TikTok often captivates users, making them lose track of time as they scroll through content. However, for a student from Georgia, the social media platform changed her life forever.

Elene Desadze, from Georgia, was scrolling through TikTok as usual when she stumbled upon a profile that looked exactly like her. This profile belonged not to someone who had stolen her picture, but to a girl named Ana Pancholidze, who bore an uncanny resemblance to her. Both girls were astonished by the striking similarity.

This unexpected online connection took a life-altering turn when DNA test results confirmed that Elene and Ana were indeed identical twins. They had been separated by a human trafficking ring.

These sisters were among thousands of Georgian children who fell victim to a child trafficking scandal years ago. The gangs involved would deceive mothers into believing their newborns had died at birth, only to then steal the babies and sell them to adoptive parents within and outside the country.

One of the sisters recounted how, upon seeing her twin, she didn’t hesitate to call Ana and ask why they looked so alike. She said that their Facebook friendship quickly turned into a personal bond, though they never suspected they could be long-lost twins.

“We felt a special connection,” she shared. “We mustered the courage to uncover the truth, and it was a huge relief when the DNA test confirmed our suspicions.”

Ana Pancholidze described the moment she received the DNA test results as life-changing. “It felt like my entire life was a lie, an illusion. That wasn’t my real life,” she said.

Despite the shocking revelation, Ana expressed no resentment, instead extending gratitude to those who raised her with love and care.
