Three-time Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim had come to Kolkata on May 13 for medical treatment. He first went to meet a friend, gold trader Gopal Biswas, at his home in Baranagar. After that, he moved to an apartment in Newtown, which he had rented. He subsequently went missing from there.

According to the police, blood stains were found in the Newtown apartment, and forensic teams have collected samples. The police also obtained CCTV footage from the apartment complex. The footage shows an unidentified woman and a man leaving the complex between May 15 and 17.

During this period, Anwarul Azim’s daughter, Mamtarin Ferdous, said in Dhaka, “I want the culprits to be arrested and punished. I want justice for my father’s murder.” She added, “I have met with the head of the investigative branch of Dhaka police and requested them to find out who killed my father and why.”

Meanwhile, in Dhaka, Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun said, “We are working together with the Indian police. We are fully cooperating with the Indian police.”
