Bagh Azad Kashmir: Journalists Take to the Streets to Protest Police Misconduct

Bagh, Azad Kashmir – Bagh journalists held a protest march on Friday against the Bagh police for violating the sanctity of the press club and misbehaving with journalists at Bagh police station.

The protest march started from the press club and ended at Zaman Chowk. The protestors were shouting slogans against the Bagh administration and in favor of freedom of press.

They demanded the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, IG Azad Kashmir and Chief Justice of Azad Kashmir to take action against the policemen who violated the sanctity of the Press Club Bagh and humiliated the journalists in Thana Bagh.

The protestors said that the attitude of the Bagh administration is very disappointing and the policemen who violated the sanctity of the press club and other policemen including the additional SHO of the Bagh police station forcibly stopped the journalists from media coverage and gave harsh words and threats to them. The police officers were not suspended and no action was taken.

They said that until action is taken against these officials, they will continue the protest and from tomorrow all the journalists of Bagh will continue their journalistic activities wearing black armbands and waving black flags at the press club.

The protestors also demanded that the Bagh administration should apologize to the journalists for violating their rights.

In a statement, the Bagh journalists said that they will not tolerate any attempt to violate the freedom of press. They said that they will continue to fight for their rights and will not back down until justice is served.
