Dadyal, Pakistan-administrred Jammu Kashmir: In the aftermath of the 1947 Pakistani administrative changes in Jammu and Kashmir, the region finds itself embroiled in a deepening crisis, characterized by a tense standoff between the authorities and the public.

Recent events have seen heightened tensions culminating in clashes between the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee and security forces.

On the 11th of May, the Joint Awami Action Committee called for a long march towards the capital of Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad.

However, their peaceful demonstration was met with a heavy-handed response from both Azad Kashmir police and Pakistani armed forces (FC & PC), resulting in the crackdown on political leaders associated with the movement.

The situation further deteriorated as, on the night of 9, May 2024, AJK police, in collaboration with Pakistani forces, launched an assault on a protest camp in Dadyal.

Despite these efforts to quell dissent, the resolve of the people remained unbroken. Citizens took to the streets, confronting the police forces and asserting their rights.

Reports indicate a widespread campaign of arrests and abductions targeting members of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, as well as students from hostels.

The absence of rule of law in Azad Kashmir has exacerbated the crisis, with the government accused of attempting to suppress the political movement.

In a concerning development, the home of Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a prominent member of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee from Muzaffarabad, was raided by police.

Similarly, other notable figures, such as journalist Khizar Abbas and district council member and former JKLF and SLF president Abdul Rahim Malik, have faced intimidation and harassment for their advocacy of justice, peace, and basic rights.

As tensions continue to simmer, calls for accountability and respect for human rights echo across social and electronic media platforms.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir remain steadfast in their demands, refusing to be silenced in their pursuit of justice and freedom.
