Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee stresses a strictly peaceful struggle ahead of its founding anniversary, following a widespread shutdown from Taobat to Bhimber.
MUZAFFARABAD — A senior figure within the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) has publicly distanced the organization from any militant activities, emphasizing that the rights movement remains committed to a strictly peaceful course.
Speaking on September 9, JKJAAC member Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri stated that the committee bears no responsibility for any actions undertaken independently or at the behest of militant groups. The statement came as a major general strike called by the action committee brought normal life to a standstill across Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The September 9 shutdown paralyzed commercial hubs and public transport from Taobat to Bhimber, with complete closures reported across the Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Mirpur divisions, including major demonstrations in Rawalakot, Kotli, Bagh, and surrounding areas. Overseas Kashmiri communities also staged protest demonstrations in cities across the United Kingdom, including London, Birmingham, and Manchester, to amplify local demands.
The action committee’s core grievances include calls for the implementation of previous agreements alongside political, economic, and administrative reforms. The widespread success of the strike has intensified pressure on authorities in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad to address the ongoing deadlock through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Political and journalistic observers have urged both sides to pursue a peaceful and constructive resolution to prevent further disruption to daily life, education, and regional commerce.
Meanwhile, the JKJAAC announced plans to observe its founding anniversary on September 16 with a public gathering at Dareek Eidgah following Maghrib prayers. Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri urged public participation in the upcoming event, which is expected to outline the movement's future trajectory and further detail its ongoing campaign.
