In a surprise move, jailed Pakistani politician and founding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has submitted his nomination papers to contest the election for the Chancellor of Oxford University.

According to PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari, Khan’s nomination papers were submitted on his instructions, paving the way for a historic campaign. Bukhari took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the development, saying, “We await everyone’s cooperation for this historic campaign.”

The news comes after a British newspaper, The Telegraph, reported in July that Khan was considering running for the prestigious post. Khan’s close aide, Bukhari, has now confirmed the speculation.

Khan, who graduated from Oxford in 1975 with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, will be vying for the position left vacant by the resignation of 80-year-old Lord Patten.

The election for the Chancellor of Oxford University is expected to be a high-profile contest, with Khan’s candidacy likely to generate significant interest and debate.
