Jehlum Valley Tourists Beware: Weather Alert Issued

Date:

HATTIAN BALA, PAKISTAN-ADMINISTERED KASHMIR – April 24, 2024 – The Jehlum Valley braces for potential dangers as the weather department forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and flash flooding between April 26 and 29, 2024.

In light of this weather alert, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has urged tourists visiting the valley to prioritize safety by following these precautions:

  • Minimize travel to mountainous areas during rainfall. If travel is unavoidable, exercise extreme caution.
  • Seek shelter in a nearby hotel or guesthouse during heavy rain. Maintain a safe distance from rivers and streams to avoid potential flash floods.
  • Reduce driving speed significantly during rain. The risk of landslides increases in mountainous areas with wet conditions.
  • Reassess and adjust your travel plans after the rain subsides. Make necessary arrangements based on the prevailing situation.
  • Report any emergencies to local authorities. In case of trouble while traveling, contact the local police, district police control room, or tourist police control room. The Jehlum Valley police are available 24/7 to assist you.
