Concerns Mount Over Shoukat Nawaz Mir’s Whereabouts 11 Days After Reported Arrest in Pakistan-administered Kashmir

Muzaffarabad | July 10, 2026 — Ten days after reports emerged that Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) leader Shoukat Nawaz Mir had been taken into custody, uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts continues to spark concern among his family, supporters, and human rights advocates.

Mir, a prominent figure in the recent protest movement in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, was reportedly detained during a security operation in the Dhirkot area on June 30. While several officials and media outlets reported his arrest, public information regarding his current location or legal status has remained limited.

Questions Persist Over His Whereabouts

Supporters of Shoukat Nawaz Mir say they have received no official information about where he is being held or whether he has been produced before a court. They argue that prolonged uncertainty has intensified anxiety among his relatives and raised broader concerns about due process.

“The silence surrounding his whereabouts is deeply troubling,” one supporter told The Azadi Times, calling for authorities to clarify his legal status and ensure access to legal counsel and family members.
