Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, accompanied by Kashmiri religious leaders, met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, calling for an end to conflicts and stronger Muslim unity.
NEW DELHI — A delegation of Kashmiri religious leaders met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS summit.
The delegation, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, included prominent figures Agha Syed Hassan Mousavi and Molvi Imran Raza Ansari. Discussions during the meetings focused on the regional security situation, escalating tensions in Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon, civilian casualties, and the wider humanitarian impact of ongoing conflicts.
The Kashmiri delegation expressed solidarity with the people of Iran and emphasized the urgent need to halt military hostilities. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that major disputes cannot be resolved through confrontation and warfare, asserting that dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual engagement offer the only viable path toward lasting peace.
The leaders also stressed the importance of unity within the Muslim world. Mirwaiz noted that political differences and sectarian divisions should not create deeper rifts among Muslims, particularly amid rising global Islamophobia and widespread conflict.
Highlighting historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between Kashmir and Iran, Mirwaiz presented Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi with a handcrafted walnut-wood model of Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid as a symbol of enduring bilateral relations.
Mirwaiz added that long-standing unresolved conflicts in South Asia and globally continue to drive human suffering, underscoring the need for restraint, diplomacy, and peaceful communication.
