Both sides described the meeting as “deep and harmonious,” signaling a rare moment of diplomatic alignment during a time of intense global tensions.
The meeting, attended by senior U.S. officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, included discussions on regional peace, Iran-Israel tensions, and bilateral cooperation in areas such as counterterrorism, trade, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
However, what remained conspicuously absent from the conversation at least publicly, was any mention of Kashmir.

Trump Praises Role in Averting Nuclear Conflict
Speaking to journalists after the lunch hosted in General Munir’s honor at the White House Cabinet Room, Trump said the Pakistani military chief had played a vital role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.
“These are two nuclear powers, and the situation could have gone very badly,” Trump stated. “But two very smart men decided to stop the war before it began.”
He added that his meeting with India’s Prime Minister Modi had also focused on trade negotiations, which are ongoing with both countries.
Iran-Israel Conflict Overshadows South Asian Concerns
A significant part of the meeting reportedly centered around the Iran-Israel crisis and whether the United States would join any potential conflict. Trump confirmed that General Munir provided “deep insight into the situation in Iran” and said, “He knows Iran perhaps better than anyone else.”
Despite this, observers noted that Kashmir — a long-standing and unresolved flashpoint between Pakistan and India — was not even mentioned in Trump’s public statements. Nor did the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) statement indicate that Kashmir was raised during the discussions.
Kashmir’s Absence Raises Questions
The omission of Kashmir is being viewed by political analysts and Kashmiri rights advocates as a missed opportunity. Given the presence of Pakistan’s most senior military official and the broader regional context, Kashmir, a nuclear flashpoint where over 75 years of political dispute and military presence continue, deserved at least a diplomatic mention.
While General Munir was praised for preventing a potential war between India and Pakistan, there was no reference to the root cause of such hostilities — the unresolved status of Jammu & Kashmir and the Kashmiri people’s internationally recognized right to self-determination under UN resolutions.
What Global Conflicts Mean for Kashmir
The escalating Iran-Israel conflict, along with mounting U.S. involvement, adds yet another layer of geopolitical complexity. Any conflict in the Middle East risks inflaming tensions across South Asia, where Pakistan — already burdened with its eastern front — cannot afford instability.
Analysts warn that Kashmir remains one of the most militarized zones in the world, and any regional war (be it Indo-Pak or U.S.-Iran) can have devastating consequences for the 13 million people of Jammu & Kashmir. Increased military movements, suspended communication, and economic paralysis are always the first victims in times of war.

While Pakistan’s military diplomacy is being hailed in Islamabad as a significant achievement, the silence on Kashmir remains deafening for those on the ground. The people of Kashmir continue to wait — not just for peace — but for their fundamental democratic right to determine their future.
