Articles20 Prisoners Escape from Rawalakot District Jail in Poonch, Massive Manhunt Underway

Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir – June 30, 2024: In a daring daylight escape, 20 prisoners, including suspects involved in terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and drug trafficking, managed to break free from the Rawalakot District Jail in Poonch.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, prompting a massive security alert and a joint operation by the police, administration, and law enforcement agencies.

According to sources, the prisoners made their escape when a jail guard went to escort them out of their barracks. Some of the inmates had reportedly prepared in advance, using chili powder to blind the guard’s eyes before overpowering him and fleeing the premises.

The escapees included Ghazi Shahzad, Usman, and Baitullah, who were imprisoned on terrorism charges, as well as Tamaz, Safeer, Saqlaain, Sohail Rashid, Asif Dal Muhammad, Faisal Hamid, Saqib Majeed, and Osama, who were serving sentences for murder.

Other prisoners who managed to escape are Shah Meer, Nasir, Khyam, Muqarram Faisal, Aamir Abdullah, Sajid Naseer, Faizan, Noman, and Shabir.

The police and jail authorities have not yet released any official statement regarding the incident. However, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sardar Tariq and a large contingent of security forces have been deployed to the jail to investigate the matter and launch a massive manhunt for the escaped prisoners.

The daring jailbreak has raised serious concerns about the security measures in place at the Rawalakot District Jail. Authorities have vowed to take immediate steps to tighten security and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
