A police operation in the Hussain Kot area of Poonch district turned deadly on Tuesday, leaving six people dead, including two Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police officers. The incident reportedly occurred during an attempt to arrest a local man, identified as Zarnosh, who was allegedly involved in an ongoing dispute with law enforcement.

According to preliminary and unverified reports, the Azad Jammu Kashmir police were conducting a targeted arrest when an explosion took place, killing Zarnosh and three other individuals on the spot. Two police officers lost their lives in the blast, while a third was seriously injured.

Local sources claim that one of the individuals may have triggered an explosive device, though authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of the blast. The AJK Police have yet to release an official statement, and the area has since been sealed off for investigation.

Zarnosh was reportedly known in the local community and had been facing issues with the police in recent weeks. However, no formal terrorism charges had been filed against him at the time of the incident.

Later the same evening, tragedy struck again when a police vehicle met with an accident near Lasdana in Bagh district. Five more AJK police personnel were killed in that incident, compounding a dark day for the region’s security forces.

AJK officials have urged the media and public to refrain from speculation and await the findings of the official investigation. The authorities have also emphasized the importance of handling such incidents with care to maintain peace in the region.

This remains a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
