20 killed, 21 injured in bus accident in Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan

Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan: A passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan,killing 20 people and injuring 21 others, rescue sources said on Friday.

The accident occurred near Yashokhal Das on the Karakoram Highway in the early hours of the morning, according to rescue officials. The bus was en route from Rawalpindi to Gilgit when it lost control and fell into the ravine.

Local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue operations upon receiving news of the accident. Police and rescue workers also arrived at the site shortly afterward and launched a full-scale rescue operation.

The injured were taken to the Regional Hospital in Diamer, where an emergency was declared. The hospital has appealed to the public for blood donations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Khalid Hussain expressed grief over the bus accident and directed the administration to provide timely medical assistance to the injured.
