Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-administered Kashmir – In recent days, a video has gone viral on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The video allegedly shows Ibrahim Traoré, the President of Burkina Faso, expressing support for Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail.

In the video, a man believed to be President Traoré can be heard saying:

“People of Pakistan, your leader is not just the leader of Pakistan, but the leader of the entire Muslim Ummah. Imran Khan is in jail, and I will raise my voice in his support.”

This statement has been widely shared, gaining hundreds of thousands of views across various pages. Several politically affiliated Facebook and YouTube pages have published the clip, presenting it as authentic.

No Independent Confirmation Yet

According to The Azadi Times’ independent research, no credible or independent international media outlet—including Reuters, BBC, Al Jazeera, or Anadolu Agency—has reported this statement by President Ibrahim Traoré.

Furthermore, no such speech or interview has been found on the official website or verified social media accounts of the Burkinabe presidency, including their Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The possibility remains that the video could be a deepfake, misattributed, or a voiceover clip placed over unrelated footage.

Who is Ibrahim Traoré?

Ibrahim Traoré is the current transitional President of Burkina Faso, a landlocked West African country. He rose to power through a military coup in September 2022, becoming the world’s youngest head of state at the age of just 34.

President Traoré is known for his anti-colonial, pan-Africanist stance and has vocally opposed foreign intervention in African affairs, particularly by France. His rise has been admired by many young Africans for challenging imperialism and supporting sovereign governance.

However, there is no known direct relationship between Traoré and Imran Khan, nor any public statement from the Burkinabe government regarding Pakistan’s internal political matters.

Social Media Reaction in Pakistan

The video has sparked a wave of emotional reactions in Pakistan, especially among supporters of Imran Khan and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Many hailed the message as a sign of growing international support, while others have called for caution, questioning the authenticity of the source.

Some social media users posted messages such as:

“Afrika jaag gaya hai, ab Pakistan ko bhi jaagna chahiye.”
“Jab ek African leader Imran Khan ke liye bol sakta hai to hum kyun nahi?”

Misinformation Risk and Media Responsibility

As the video spreads across platforms, media experts have urged for responsible sharing and verification of facts before amplifying unconfirmed content. According to media analyst Rashid Mughal, “In an age where AI-generated content is becoming indistinguishable from real footage, it is essential to verify sources before reaching conclusions.”

TikTok has not yet flagged the video as misinformation, and it continues to trend under hashtags like #ImranKhan, #IbrahimTraore, and #MuslimUnity.

At present, there is no verified evidence that President Ibrahim Traoré made such a statement about Imran Khan. While the video has resonated with many in Pakistan, it remains critical to rely on credible sources and avoid spreading unverified claims.

The Azadi Times continues to monitor the situation and will update this story as more information becomes available.
